Food as Medicine

I can’t tell you how many thousands of hours I have put in chopping, cutting, dicing, mincing, slicing, and preparing food in this small corner of my kitchen. These kitchen cupboards know me better than anything. If you lined up all the meals I’ve created in this little corner of the world, they very well might stretch across the length of Canada. I am committed to it, and stick with it because I know very well that we have nothing if we do not have our health. I also have learned over the years, that if I can stay healthy as the Mum, my family will rebound from illness much quicker.

Health and wellness is a lifestyle and a relationship. Food is a life force which sustains us, rebuilds us, keeps our immune systems thriving and hormones flowing; it is through deep nutrition that will determine to a large extent how we move through this world and experience life. We cannot be grounded and clear headed if we are starving.

Food is my love language. Serving home cooked food to my loved ones is a joy for me. Sending this food to school with my kids is just an extension of myself and my love. There is intention cooked into it and that is a powerful, base ingredient that is overlooked. But it is the reason why your own cooking has a unique signature to it and always tastes so good and can’t be replicated by a machine. Maybe it sounds crazy to you.. I don’t know. But what I do know is that I see and hear the chaos in the collective that is spreading like wildfire these days. People live in perpetual fear and so many are functioning from survival mode. All of the power seems lost and in the hands of others. It’s as though there is nothing anyone can do… or at least that’s what the powers that be want you to think. So what can we do?

We can begin by reclaiming our food and our kitchens and recalibrating our palates to enjoy whole foods. Our bodies understand and thrive on foods from the earth. You don’t have to break the bank doing it either and I know it can seem overwhelming doing a total overhaul of your kitchen, BUT, it is worth your time and effort.

Part of my mission here on earth is to support women and particularly mothers. I plan to do this through many different ways, but I have a new offering in the works that involves teaching whole, traditional food cooking to women and their communities so that we can support each other and thrive as a human culture. It starts in our kitchens, with knives in our hands, reclaiming and reframing health, and refusing to eat what is making us sick.
