I wait all year long for these days. Part of the reason the winter is a tough season for me to get through is that its just so damn cold and sometimes going outside seems like such an undertaking with all the effort bundling up required to simply get out the door. Cabin fever is nature deficiency. This year we’ve planted the usual suspects like carrots, tomatoes and beets amongst many more. But it’s the medicinal herbs that have me excited. I planted wood betony, calendula, lavender, nettle, lemon balm, black cohosh, borage, California poppy, feverfew, holy basil and a few others I can’t remember.
Gardening is such therapy for me. I love to work hard in there and get my blood moving. I like getting dirt under my nails and taking my boots off and letting my feet sink in to the mud. I get a big dose of vitamin Earth. My kids help out in the garden, and play a part in the starting of seeds. When harvest time roles around there are so many lessons and circles completing that the learning for them is off the charts. The elements kick my ass out there, but boy do I sleep deep.
